Re: Just wondering why it keeps saying this..

The lagometer has nothing to do with the server - its code and assets are entirely client side. You are seeing the missing files because of some shaders found in some other paks. These things usually come from servers with "fun" menu additions, texture changes, and the like. The fix is to delete any...

Forum signups fixed

I fixed the issue where new users could not sign up. Turns out my mail daemon was screwed up. Kinda funny actually, I got a flood of old emails that were queued up since a few months ago when I moved the site.

Site moved.

I moved the site to another host. The only thing you should have noticed is perhaps the site loads a lot faster now :) Just an FYI.

Re: XP reset issues

XP is tracked on GUID. Are their GUIDs generating each time they play the game?

Re: EvenBalance PB support for ET ended (and consequences)

What you describe is correct. The problem may not have a perfect solution, but I have a hard time buying one that allows the client to generate id's at will. I also don't think giving the client and server an encrypted handshake actually does any good. Encryption exists only to hide the data from pr...

Re: EvenBalance PB support for ET ended (and consequences)

Public/private key couldn't work. That setup is to establish trust between two trustworthy parties. In ET's case, the client can not be trusted at all and there is no authority Then I don't see why anyone would use public/private keys. I thought it might work like this: the client sends his public ...

If the key changed every time how would you maintain bans?

Public/private key couldn't work. That setup is to establish trust between two trustworthy parties. In ET's case, the client can not be trusted at all and there is no authority. The best system is to generate an id keyed off of a license key, but ET's free and doesn't have one. The only thing you ca...

Re: EvenBalance PB support for ET ended (and consequences)

So what are some of your (all of you) ideas on how to generate a unique hardware id that is not trivial to bypass?

Re: EvenBalance PB support for ET ended (and consequences)

What I'm hoping happens is someone develops an engine mod now that PB is gone. I always thought such a community developed version of the engine would never work since PB would be excluded, but since that's been forced on us, well... :)

Re: EvenBalance PB support for ET ended (and consequences)

I'm at a loss as to why I would sue him. I'm not happy with a couple of the things he's added because I specifically did not want them in the mod, but I'm glad he got some of the exploits fixed.

It's a real shame that EvenBalance dropped support, but at the same time, the game is 7 or 8 years old.
